Scripture was very important to Jesus. One of my favorite passages is the story of the
journey on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24: 13-35). Shortly following the Resurrection, Jesus
found the time to give a scripture lesson to two of his disciples.
Jesus started with the
writing of Moses and went through all the writings of the prophets that referred to
himself, Jesus the Christ, the son of the living God.
This paper is road map for a similar journey for those who hold life sacred, particularly those who are interested in protecting unborn children. Who could use such a map? A student trying to write a pro-life paper for a class. A parish staff person trying to put a pro-life scripture quote in a church bulletin every week. A priest preparing a homily for respect life month. A Catholic school teacher or CCD teacher preparing a lesson. A lay person who is cooperating in pro-life activities with Protestants or Evangelicals who may be unfamiliar with Catholic Teaching.
Many homes have a Bible, even if it is not read frequently. Fewer homes are likely to have a Papal encyclical, Bishop's pastoral letter, Catechism of the Catholic Church, or a publication from the National Conference of Catholic Bishops or United States Catholic Conference. This paper can help get a pro-life person started with a resource they might have at hand.
The paper is divided into seven themes. It is hoped that this paper finds a receptive audience.
